JUSTICE DAVID KENANI MARAGA

Justice David Kenani Maraga is a distinguished Kenyan jurist who served as the 14th Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya (2016–2021).

He began his judicial career in October 2003 as a High Court Judge, later serving as Resident Judge in various High Courts (2003–2011). In January 2012, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal before being appointed Chief Justice in October 2016.

Justice Maraga made history in 2017 by nullifying Kenya’s presidential election between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, citing illegalities and irregularities—a landmark ruling that reinforced judicial independence in Africa.
