PRESIDENT AMEENAH GURIB-FAKIM

Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim is a Mauritian politician and biodiversity scientist who served as the 6th President of Mauritius from 2015 to 2018, making history as the first female President of the country.

She holds a Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from Exeter University, England, and previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Science and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius (2004–2010).

Her contributions to science and leadership have earned her prestigious awards, including the African Union and UNESCO Awards for Women in Science (2009) and the International Women of the Year Award (2024) at the British House of Commons.Educational Background

She is also a Fellow of the African Institute of Science and Technology, Nigeria.
